Man City finalise surprise signing as Guardiola untouchable agrees to join new club

Manchester City will formally open talks with Burnley to complete the signing of James Trafford if Ederson completes his move to Galatasaray, sources have told Football Insider.

The City goalkeeper and long-time untouchable has been heavily linked with the Turkish giants, and has reportedly already agreed personal terms ahead of the switch.

If Galatasaray’s pursuit of Ederson is successful, it would see him depart the Etihad after eight years in Manchester.

Trafford has emerged as the favourite to replace the Brazilian between the sticks, and Pep Guardiola’s side have a £40million buy-back clause after selling him to Burnley in 2023.

James Trafford ‘very keen’ to re-sign for Man City

Last season, Trafford kept a staggering 29 clean sheets as Burnley were promoted back to the Premier League, including a run of over 1000 minutes without conceding a single goal.

The Clarets keeper also has prior top-flight experience, starting 28 games in the 2023/24 campaign as the Lancashire side were relegated down to the Championship.

There is no doubt that the 22-year-old has the necessary ability to become first-choice keeper at Man City, and Guardiola clearly feels that it is time to move Ederson on for a younger option.

Football Insider have revealed that Trafford is “very keen” to rejoin City, and complete what would be a move back to his boyhood club.

The shot-stopper joined the Manchester side at the age of just 12, before working his way up through the academy ranks.

Man City to lose Silva for free

Meanwhile, Man City could be set to lose Bernardo Silva for free as his agent opens talks with other clubs, sources have told Football Insider.

Silva was one of several players tipped to leave Man City at the end of last season, and as a client of ‘super-agent’ Jorge Mendes, the 30-year-old would have no shortage of suitors were this to happen.

Football Insider revealed that reported interest from Real Madrid has been rebuffed by Man City, after Guardiola made Silva central to next season’s plans by appointing him captain.

However, sources have told Football Insider that as Silva is yet to be offered new terms by City with his current deal set to expire in June 2026, Mendes is exploring options for the Portuguese as a potential free agent.
