Man City hatch January plan to sign striker – sources
Man City are ready to pull the trigger on a striker signing in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
Reports have suggested that Pep Guardiola will be handed a big transfer budget in the mid-season window after City’s modest summer spend.
Sources say the Premier League champions will press on with January spending if they are hit by injuries or fall behind in the title race.
It is believed a striker is most likely to be at the top of the wish list for Guardiola and his recruitment chiefs.
That is after the sale of Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid for a reported fee of £82million.
The deal leaves Erling Haaland as the club’s sole senior striker – with Phil Foden and James McAtee able to play in a false nine role if needed.

Savinho and Ilkay Gundogan were Man City’s only two signings in the summer window.
Alvarez, Joao Cancelo, Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Sergio Gomez, Tommy Doyle and Kalvin Phillips all left the Etihad Stadium in the off-season.

City have started strong in the 2024-25 campaign despite injuries to Foden and promising youngster Oscar Bobb.
Guardiola’s side have won all three Premier League games and also beat Man United in the Community Shield.
