Man City have made ‘surprising’ transfer move after £200m reveal
Man City’s drop in revenue should not concern supporters as the club’s finances are in good health.
That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who was also left stunned by Man City’s transfer spend.
It was revealed that Man City lost £20million in revenue when the club posted their 2024-25 financial accounts.
Commercial and broadcast revenue both fell for the club, whilst matchday income also dropped slightly on previous figures.
Man City ‘proving to be a successful machine’
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes there is no concern around the state of Man City‘s finances.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness only has concerns around the verdict of Man City’s 115 charges case.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “There’s nothing really there. I mean, what did surprise me a little bit was that they’d spent over £200m on transfers. The whole squad, if you look at it now, it took about £1.3 billion to assemble.
“Now that’s, you know, that’s not bad. But no, there’s nothing at all that’s concerning. Slight drop in revenue mainly due to, you know, success in European competition. But overall, nothing at all. It’s pretty boringly consistent, which is good for City.
“They’re proving to be a successful machine. It’s so hard to believe for me that it’s 10, 12 years ago when they got bought by Abu Dhabi, it’s that long, but they’re now really achieving, you know, consistency on the commercial side, and the revenue side.
“And look, it’s a very good club now, and they’re doing very well, but no red flags, nothing about debt or any concerns about the future. They’re a good set of numbers. But just these 115 charges just keep nagging in your brain as to what could really happen if something happened there.”

Man City could sell trio in January
Man City may not spend in the January transfer window unless the club can sell a couple of their fringe players.
The club are lining up a move for Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo, but they may have to sell either Savinho, Oscar Bobb, or Rico Lewis.
Tottenham could pursue Savinho, after the north London club nearly signed the Brazilian in the summer window.
