Man City held Kyogo Furuhashi talks and deal could still happen – sources
Man City had considered signing Celtic attacking Kyogo Furuhashi during the summer transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the 29-year-old “was talked about” by the club’s recruitment team as a potential replacement for Julian Alvarez and the player was sounded out about the move.
City sold Alvarez to Atletico Madrid during the summer transfer window but never replaced him.
At the back end of the window, Furuhashi was discussed within the club due to his movement and finishing quality.
The Premier League giants could still look to sign a new attacker to replace Alvarez, and Kyogo remains a live option going into January, but the club are not in a rush to do so.
However, Furuhashi’s age could prevent him from making the move to the Etihad Stadium next summer and beyond.
Man City have plenty of attacking options available
Pep Guardiola isn’t desperate to find another striker at the moment due to the attacking options he already has available.
Erling Haaland has scored seven goals in the opening three Premier League games, proving his ability to carry the attacking load.
Man City also have options such as Phil Foden who are capable of playing as a false nine too, giving Guardiola further options.
Sources have told Football Insider that the club will not panic and rush out to buy anybody in the January transfer window because of that.

Furuhashi could remain an option in the future if City decide to dip into the market to provide some competition to Haaland.
The Japan international is a proven commodity, having scored 74 goals in 137 games for Celtic.
