
Man City hit by Nathan Ake injury blow ahead of Brentford clash
Man City have been handed a significant injury blow ahead of Saturday’s match against Brentford after Nathan Ake was injured on international duty.
The versatile defender ended was stretchered off during the Netherlands’ 2-2 draw against Germany on Tuesday night.
The 29-year-old pulled up in the 41st minute of the game with a muscle problem and was unable to continue in the game.
Ake earned his 53rd cap for his country during the game, but is now a major doubt for this weekend as club football returns.
Ake played 66 minutes in the Netherlands’ 5-2 win against Bosnia last weekend but will return to Manchester needing to rehabilitate from his injury.
So far this season, Ake has only made one appearance in the Premier League.
Man City are set to be without Nathan Ake this weekend
Ake was a substitute during Man City’s victories over Chelsea and Ipswich, but he did make a two-minute cameo from the bench against West Ham.
Pep Guardiola has opted to choose other defensive options over Ake this season, but with the Champions League returning soon he will need his full squad.
The Netherlands international made 44 appearances in all competitions last season for Man City, with 29 of which came in the Premier League.
