Man City issued Kalvin Phillips injury verdict by expert after ‘huge’ reveal

Paul Robinson has allayed fears over Kalvin Phillips’ injury record as Man City prepare to announce the midfielder’s arrival.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and Leeds United goalkeeper said the quality of staff at the Etihad will help the 26-year-old stay fit.

As revealed by this site (30 June), Phillips was scheduled to undergo a medical with City on Friday after a deal was agreed between the two clubs

The transfer will be worth £45million plus £5million in add-ons.

Phillips struggled with injury last season and was limited to just 23 appearances across all competitions.

When asked by Football Insider if that would be a concern for Pep Guardiola’s side, Robinson said: “I expect that has been taken into consideration.

“But for that fee, it is not a risk from City. It is a huge bargain given the quality of player they are getting.

“Yes, he struggled with injury last season but players have seasons like that in their career.

“City will provide him with a step up on the field and off it. The sports science and quality of care for Kalvin Phillips will probably help him stay by large injury free.

“The training facilities, the staff that they’ve got, the amount of staff they have for each player. The attention to detail will help him stay on the pitch as long as he can. It is just a step up in class in all areas.

“His injury record the season before was very good. He also played throughout the Euros.”
