Man City lay groundwork for Georgiy Sudakov deal – sources

Man City have been laying the groundwork to sign Shakhtar Donetsk sensation Georgiy Sudakov, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed the 22-year-old playmaker is on Man City’s transfer target list.

The defending Premier League champions are looking to prepare for life without Kevin De Bruyne, who is out of contract at the Etihad Stadium at the end of his season.

Football Insider revealed that Man City have put contract talks with the Belgium international on the backburner due to his mixed fitness record, with the club focusing on potential long-term replacements.

Sudakov is a playmaker who has proven himself for club and country over the past 18 months and has been playing in the Champions League regularly.

The defending Premier League champions have been doing their due diligence on Sudakov, as he’s currently considered one of the best young talents in Europe.

Man City will have to negotiate to sign Georgiy Sudakov

The Ukraine international is under contract at Shakhtar Donetsk until 2028, and sources tell Football Insider that they would demand a “big transfer fee” to consider selling him.

Shakhtar Donetsk are notoriously difficult to do transfer deals with, and because of that there will be no move in the January transfer window for Sudakov.

However, it is expected that clubs will step up their interest in the creative midfielder during next summer’s transfer window.

Man City are not the only Premier League side in the market for him though as Tottenham, Arsenal, and Liverpool are all interested.

Sudakov has made an electric start to the current season by scoring seven goals and providing two assists in 10 games across all competitions.
