Man City legal twist is ‘amazing’ – ‘this is a bad look’
Man City and the rest of the Premier League are awaiting the verdict on the club’s 115 charges case, which has dominated headlines since it was brought two years ago.
According to top-flight rules, punishment could involve a points deduction and even stretches to the threat of expulsion from the division.
Meanwhile, City have also fought the Premier League over Associated Party Transaction (APT) rules, which were amended in November 2024 after legal action from the English champions.
They claimed the regulations violated competition law and insisted that also applies to the new-look guidelines.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has given his reaction to an “amazing” new twist at the Etihad Stadium.
Man City development ‘is a bad look’, says Wyness
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness has claimed Man City now challenging the amended APT rules is a “bad look” for the club.
The rules were formed to prevent clubs from profiting from commercial deals with companies linked to their owners that are deemed above fair market value.
A majority of Premier League clubs voted through amendments last year (2024), with only City, Newcastle, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa voting against them.
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “We’re calling these new rules APT2. This all came from a challenge from City to the Premier League’s adjustments to the old APT rules, APT1.
“Man City are now saying these new adjustments aren’t legal. They did warn they would do this.
“It does seem like it’s just reserving a legal position rather than any intent to go forward.
“Once we get some rulings on APT1, that could render APT2 null and void.

“It’s a lot for everyone to follow, but it amazes me that City are still going after this.
“It’s just a bad look as far as I’m concerned.
“Hopefully we can get all this legal stuff behind us soon.”
Man City spending to continue this summer
Wyness has previously told Football Insider that Man City can continue spending this summer despite dropping £180million on four new January arrivals.
Nico Gonzalez, Omar Marmoush, Victor Reis and Abdukodir Khusanov all arrived at the Etihad Stadium to bolster Guardiola’s squad.
Former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown has told Football Insider that Man City scouts are keeping tabs on Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton.
