Man City 'lining up' Ilkay Gundogan replacement after source's reveal - pundit

Alan Hutton has insisted Man City have a replacement ready for Ilkay Gundogan.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said Pep Guardiola doesn’t get “hung up” on players who want to leave.

On Sunday (14 May), sources told this site that Barcelona are the favourites to land the 32-year-old this summer.

The German international is out of contract at the end of the season with the La Liga giants well placed to sign him on a free transfer.

The midfielder was man-of-the-match for the second consecutive league game as he scored twice and set up Erling Haaland in the 3-0 win over Everton on Sunday (14 May).

As quoted by the Manchester Evening News (15 May), Guardiola is hopeful the Sky Blues can keep hold of Gundogan next season.

When asked if City will be able to hold onto the midfielder next season, Hutton told Football Insider:It will be difficult.

He is a top, top player that is there for all to see. The one thing I would say about Pep is that he has always got the next one lined up.

It does not matter who goes. [Sergio] Aguero goes, he will never be replaced, it took them a little bit of time but Haaland has come in. He let [Raheem] Sterling leave so I do not think he gets too hung up on players who want to move on or try something new.

It will be difficult for them to replace him but ultimately I think they will have someone in mind.
