Man City, Liverpool stars respond as crushing injury confirmed – ‘Hurts me a lot’

Man City and Liverpool stars flocked to social media following the announcement of an emotional new injury setback.

Pep Guardiola’s side faced several high-profile injuries last season, with Kevin De Bruyne and Rodri spending lengthy spells on the sidelines, but that does not excuse the Citizens’ poor form.

The Reds, on the other hand, experienced an incredible first campaign under Arne Slot’s reign, lifting the Premier League title with ease ahead of Arsenal, where Mikel Arteta remains under pressure.

Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus were joined by Gabriel Magalhaes, Jurrien Timber, Bukayo Saka, and Ben White at different times of the season, leaving the Gunners with a depleted squad.

Long-term injuries can strike at the worst of times, and now Premier League duo, Florian Wirtz and Nathan Ake, have reacted to the latest blow across Europe at the Nou Camp.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen confirms new injury blow

Taking to Instagram (24 July), Marc-Andre ter Stegen wrote: “Dear Culers, I wear the colours and shirt of FC Barcelona with great pride on and off the field, in the moments of success and in the most difficult times.

“Today is a difficult day for me, on a personal level,” as the goalkeeper explained his injury setback, with back surgery now being required, and another three months on the sidelines.

He continued: “On an emotional level, it hurts me a lot not to be able to help the team during this time, but fortunately, the rehabilitation is bearable and the road back is plotted.”

Supporters flocked to the German’s announcement, with teammate Raphinha liking the post, as well as Man City’s Ake and Liverpool’s new signing, Wirtz.

Marcus Rashford joins Barcelona squad

Football Insider verdict

Barcelona managed to pip Real Madrid to the La Liga title last season, with Robert Lewandowski, Raphina, and Lamine Yamal all lighting up the league in the final third.

Despite their talents, Hansi Flick has now added Man United outcast Marcus Rashford on a season-long loan, after a successful six months with Unai Emery’s Aston Villa.

The 28-year-old notched four goals and five assists in 17 appearances before sustaining a season-ending injury, before then returning to Old Trafford as a member of Ruben Amorim‘s “bomb squad”.

Barcelona had also attempted to raid Anfield for a winger, though Bayern Munich could now seal a move for Luis Diaz as Liverpool turn their attention to Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak.

Rashford will be keen to hit the ground running in Spain, proving all of his doubters wrong back in England, and he absolutely has the ability to do so.

Of course, Ter Stegen will have to wait until playing with the England international after suffering another frustrating setback, but Wojciech Szczesny has been a superb replacement so far.
