Man City make James McAtee transfer decision – sources

Man City are set to reject any offers for James McAtee during this transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed the 21-year-old striker has “really impressed” Pep Guardiola during pre-season.

McAtee will feature as part of Guardiola’s first-team plans this season as he looks to provide competition to Erling Haaland.

The defending Premier League champions are set to lose Julian Alvarez before the transfer deadline, but the club are in no big rush to replace him.

Man City believe they are well stocked in that area of the pitch, but if the right player becomes available they do have the money to buy them.

In the meantime, Guardiola will rely on Savinho and McAtee as options if Haaland isn’t playing.

Man City are ready to give James McAtee a chance this season

McAtee has been at Man City since 2013, rising his way through the club’s youth ranks.

Since then, he has made seven first-team appearances for the club and has enjoyed successful loan periods with Sheffield United.

McAtee has made 75 appearances for the Blades, scoring 14 goals and providing eight assists.

The young striker has also thrived in Man City’s Under-23s team, scoring 27 goals in 52 games.

McAtee is now set to get his opportunity with Man City’s first team as Alvarez moves on to new pastures at Atletico Madrid.

Football Insider revealed that a big reason for the Argentina international leaving is due to wanting a sunnier climate.
