‘Man City make move for fan favourite’ after surprise news
Man City have had a fall from grace this term with the club staring down the barrel of a trophyless season and a potential failure to qualify for the Champions League.
The Premier League champions lost 1-0 away at Nottingham Forest on Saturday (8 March), leaving them fifth and easily within touching distance for Newcastle, Brighton, Aston Villa and Bournemouth.
Pep Guardiola has told the media his side face “10 finals” in their final Premier League games of this season as they fight to secure Champions League qualification.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has shared his reaction as Guardiola turns to a “fan favourite” to lift spirits at the Etihad Stadium.
Man City have matched United with ex-players set to do their bit, says Wyness
As per bombshell news from City Xtra (7 March), Fernandinho has been offered a position within the club’s first-team coaching set-up after graduating from a Fifa course.
He could become an assistant coach under Guardiola but a decision is still pending while his family weighs up the move from Brazil to Manchester.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted the ex-midfielder is “very popular” and appointing him would be a “good move”.
He claimed City now have a “culture of past footballers with the winning ethos” after a decade at the top of the Premier League – something he said Man United have had “for many years”.
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “He’s obviously a fan favourite, he’s very popular.
“Fernandinho has a great love for Man City. I just wonder if he’s going to take his family from Brazil and settle in England again.
“There’s a lot of talk right now, I don’t know if it’s going to go through.
“He’s got to think longer-term about his family life and all those issues.
“There are other considerations to be taken into account, but he’s a great personality.
“I think it’s a sign of City having longevity at the top, when they are starting to have this culture of past footballers with the winning ethos.
“It takes a decade or so to do that, but City are now finding they have ex-players who can deliver.
“It’s something United have had for many years now.
“It’s a good move from City and I wish him well if he does come back.”

Man City to accept cut-price Grealish bid
Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (11 March) that Man City will accept an offer for fringe star Jack Grealish in the upcoming transfer window if their reduced asking price is met.
It is believed the England international, 29, is unhappy with his role at the Etihad Stadium – almost four years on from his £100million move from Aston Villa.
Football Insider revealed (3 March) that Ederson, 31, also has a “strong possibility” of leaving Man City in the off-season.
