Man City may have already wrapped up next season’s title after ‘scary’ Pep Guardiola reveal – pundit

“It would be wrong” if Man City didn’t make an attempt to sign Erling Haaland this summer, according to Noel Whelan.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed Pep Guardiola’s side and the 21-year-old are a “match made in heaven”.

This site revealed last month (12 February) that Man City are in pole position to sign Haaland – with the striker available for just £68million in the summer.

Speaking to club media (5 March), Guardiola confirmed the Citizens “definitely need a striker” in the window and insisted “the club is going to try” to sign one.

The Athletic‘s David Ornstein claimed today (7 March) that Haaland will make a decision on his future in the next few weeks.

Whelan suggested Man City may as well be awarded next season’s title if they go “all-out” for the Norweigan.

“It would be wrong if they didn’t try and sign him,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“If you look at his age and the potential for him to be there for over 10 years, the amount of chances City create, his conversion rate – it’s a match made in heaven.

“It’s the only thing they’ve been missing since Sergio Aguero left – that out and out number nine.

“But if they go all-out and get Haaland this summer, why not just give them next season’s title?

“It’s such a scary thought, he’s got every aspect you would want from a centre forward. He’d be an absolute dream for them.”

Haaland has managed 23 goals in 20 games this term but has struggled with various injury problems.

Strikerless City sit top of the Premier League by six points.

In other news, pundit claims there is “no chance” of Liverpool catching Man City thanks to “unbelievable” star.
