Man City news: Erling Haaland move could hit the rocks after ‘worrying’ update from Germany – pundit
News of Erling Haaland’s ongoing injury problems will be a “real worry” for potential suitors Man City, according to Noel Whelan.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, urged the 21-year-old to “be sensible with his career” amid concerning reports from Germany.
As per Sport1 (16 April), Borussia Dortmund coach Marco Rose revealed Haaland is playing through the pain barrier and has refused to undergo an MRI scan to reveal the full extent of an ankle injury sustained last month.
The report claims the Norway international is trying to keep details of his injury problems “secret” to prevent a big-money summer move falling through.
According to the Daily Mail (13 April), Haaland is set to choose his next club within the next two weeks – with City favourites to beat Real Madrid, Barcelona and PSG to his signature.
However, Whelan suggested the new revelations over his fitness could “jeopardise” any potential switch.
“That will be a real worry for City,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“Haaland needs to be sensible with his career here. If you end up aggravating something that leaves you out for the long term, that’s going to jeopardise a move even more.
“At the end of the day, Dortmund aren’t going to win the league. So you may as well take the time to get this injury sorted so you’re ready for next season.
“He’s got to put his health first. He’ll be missed by Dortmund. But getting on top of what seems to be a niggling injury has to be top of his priority list.”

Haaland has netted 25 goals in 26 games this term.
A deal is likely to cost City a reported £100million in total.
