Man City news: Guardiola ‘haunted’ by Jack Grealish transfer blunder – expert

Alex McLeish has insisted Harry Kane’s dazzling display for Tottenham against Man City will have “hurt” Pep Guardiola.

The former Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 28-year-old proved why City were so keen on signing him last summer.

A Man City source told Football Insider earlier this month (3 February) that club chiefs have privately admitted they made a mistake signing Jack Grealish over Kane.

City saw a £125million bid knocked back by Tottenham and they subsequently abandoned their pursuit.

Kane was the standout performer on Saturday as his two goals helped Spurs to a 3-2 win at the Etihad Stadium.

McLeish admitted the striker’s display will have “haunted” Guardiola and City.

McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Oh God. That was a really sore one for Pep, especially having tried to get him.

“You don’t say Harry’s rubbed it in but he’s just showed you why Pep Guardiola wanted him. He had to come and haunt Man City.

“I don’t think he necessarily wanted to hurt Pep but he’s obviously shown his prowess. Earlier in the season, people were doubting (him).

“I compared him to Alan Shearer. He used to say, when he missed a chance or two, he’d flick the dandruff off his shoulder and got on with it.

“These guys, they know they’ll score again and once they get that bit of confidence, they’re off and running.”

Tottenham

Kane has scored 17 times in 34 appearances across all competitions this season.

Riyad Mahrez is City’s top scorer this term with 18 goals in 30 games.
