Man City news: Pundit hits out at Rodri as new details emerge – ‘it is crazy’

Frank McAvennie has slammed Man City midfielder Rodri for his recent comments.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said Rodri’s behaviour was “wrong”.

Despite playing out to a draw in the round of 16, Spain were eliminated from the World Cup after losing 3-0 on penalties to Morocco.

As quoted by the Times after the defeat (7 December), the 26-year-old criticised their opponents’ counter-attacking game plan.

The Premier League midfielder claimed Morocco offered “absolutely nothing” in the game.

Rodri will link up with the rest of his teammates no longer in the competition ahead of the season restart on Boxing Day.

When asked if the Spaniard should have chosen his words more carefully, McAvennie told Football Insider:He would not have said a word if they had won or it would not have looked as bad.

Spain is one of the best teams in the world so whatever way someone can beat them, they will go for it. They got outdone, simple as that.

I think it is wrong that somebody like him has come out and said that. I get it he is hurting but do not blame the other team, blame your own performance because you were not good enough to beat them.

Some people on the pitch did not perform to the best of their ability and that is why Morocco beat them. It is crazy that Spain missed all those penalties and he is not blaming them.
