Man City news: Pundit issues ‘100 per cent’ Jack Grealish prediction amid ‘brilliant’ verdict

Kevin Phillips has tipped Man City midfielder Jack Grealish to be a regular England starter by the time of the World Cup.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the 2000 European Golden Shoe winner hailed the “brilliant” 26-year-old despite his “stop-start form” this season.

Man City signed Grealish from Aston Villa for £100million last August – the record fee for an English player.

The attacking midfielder was a second-half substitute in England’s 2-1 win over Switzerland on Saturday.

Grealish has started just 10 times for the Three Lions since his debut in September 2020.

When asked if his move to Manchester City would improve his chances of becoming a regular, Phillips told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs: “I hope so.

“He is such a brilliant player.

“Southgate knows what he is doing, we still got to the final with Grealish being a bit-part player. He did not put him under huge pressure when people were calling for him to start games. He managed him very well.

“Moving forward, I’m sure Jack will play a more prominent role in the England squad. 100 per cent. There’s no doubt about it, he will be going to the World Cup.

“His form has been stop-start for Man City but if he finds consistency then it would be hard to not start him. We know the qualities he possesses.

“I love watching him play. I would love to see him in that England shirt regularly.”
