Man City news: Pundit issues 'massive' Aymeric Laporte claim after latest development

Alan Hutton insisted it is a “massive plus” for Man City to have Aymeric Laporte back in the team.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa right-back said Pep Guardiola will want all of his defenders fit for the “big” fixtures they have coming up.

The Spain international was on the bench for City’s 6-3 win over Man United.

He was subbed on for the final 15 minutes of the game.

Speaking to club media (30 September), Guardiola said Laporte’s recovery has been going well.

On 12 September, City confirmed that the 28-year-old had returned to training with the first team.

The defender missed the Sky Blues’ pre-season after receiving surgery on a knee injury.

When asked how important it is for City to have Laporte back, Hutton told Football Insider: “Of course it is important.

The two that started in the Manchester derby, it probably was not their strongest pairing but ultimately they still did well.

For the big games coming up I think Pep will want all of his defenders fit and healthy. Welcoming Laporte back is a massive plus. It is obviously going to take time, he has been out for a while, he is going to have to get the rust off. But definitely a plus for Man City.

Laporte made 44 appearances for the Cityzens across all competitions last season.

In those outings he scored four goals.
