Man City news: Pundit shares emphatic John Stones verdict as 'incredible' details emerge
Noel Whelan has claimed Man City star John Stones put defensive doubts at ease with his performance during England’s 0-0 draw with the USA on Friday (25 November).
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed Stones, 28, and Man United ace Harry Maguire, 29, were the “shining lights” of the “dull” performance.
England’s draw means they can secure top spot in Group B with a win over Wales on Tuesday (29 November).
As per Sofascore, Stones made three clearances, one block, one tackle – and completed 97% of his 89 passes during the clash.
Meanwhile, Maguire recorded eight clearances, one block, one interception, and one tackle.
As per Sky Sports (24 November), England boss Gareth Southgate dismissed the criticism of the pair – claiming they provide an “incredible platform” for his side as they look to play out from the back.

Whelan hailed the duo’s “really good relationship” after their experience at the last two major tournaments.
He told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “That performance should put mean a bit more confidence in these two, and it shows they can be relied upon.
“It was a good performance defensively, but the rest of the players just didn’t do their job in attack or in midfield.
“Stones and Maguire are two centre-backs who have played many times together and have a really good relationship.
“They were two shining lights from a very dull and boring performance from England – which bodes well for the knockout stage if we manage to make it.”
