Man City news: ‘World famous’ Grealish verdict issued after source’s reveal – pundit

Man City midfielder Jack Grealish will justify his £100million price tag when “the limelight comes off him.”

That is the view of former Sunderland and England striker Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 26-year-old’s start to life at the Etihad.

Grealish was absent from the Man City squad which won 4-0 at Norwich City on Saturday.

Speaking to club media after the win (12 February), Pep Guardiola revealed the attacking midfielder is injured but should be fit to return next week.

A City source told Football Insider (3 February), that club chiefs privately admit they should have signed Tottenham’s Harry Kane instead of Grealish in the summer.

When asked for his assessment of Grealish’s form, Phillips told Football Insider: “It’s been the start that I expected, to be honest.

“When I analyse it and look at it, there has been a few off-field problems but I get that. He is a young lad and he has very quickly become world famous.

“Under Pep Guardiola, you are not guaranteed to play every week. You have to earn the right to get into that side.

“When he has been in, he has showed some real class. Yes, he has had a few quiet games but given time, once he’s settled, he’ll turn out to be a top signing for City.

“I was at the game on Thursday night. He came on and he floated through the game. He makes it look so easy at times.

“I think he’ll just get better and better as the limelight comes off him.”
