Man City offering Phil Foden ‘peanuts’ after source’s £78m deal reveal

Phil Foden will be paid “peanuts” by Man City when he signs a new deal with the club.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the City star.

Sources told Football Insider on Sunday (25 September) that Man City have reached an agreement in principle with Foden on a mega-money new contract.

The 22-year-old is set to multiple his salary many times after finalising a deal six-year deal worth around £250,000-a-week, meaning the total deal will be worth around £78million in total.

The attacking midfielder has been a revelation since breaking into the Man City team, scoring 48 goals in 179 appearances.

Kenny insists Man City are getting a good deal despite the £78million outlay.

“It’s fair, it’s well-deserved,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He is up there with the top earners at that club. He has done his time and proved what his value is to the club.

“Whatever he is paid in wages is peanuts because he hasn’t cost them a penny. You get these players who come through the academy and it makes a massive difference.

“How much would you be bidding if you wanted to sign Foden? It doesn’t matter because that’s not enough.

“He hasn’t cost a penny, he is only costing Man City in wages. I think it’s a pretty good return. Like I say, he is a serious talent and you have to pay the money to keep those guys around.”

Foden has scored three goals in 10 total outings for Manchester City so far this season.

His side are next in action against Man United in Sunday’s (2 October) Manchester derby.
