Man City plan to accept £70m Julian Alvarez bid – sources
Man City will demand £70million to sell wantaway forward Julian Alvarez before the transfer deadline, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Pep Guardiola is set to sit down with the forward after he returns from the Olympics in a bid to convince him to stay.
Alvarez, 24, has confessed he is frustrated with his role at the club and has suggested he would like to leave Manchester due to the weather.
However, he remains under contract at The Etihad until 2028, and City hold the cards over his future with their strong negotiating position.
Guardiola is keen to keep Alvarez at the club for at least one more season and sources say his exit remains unlikely.
Man City to hold crunch talks over £70m Julian Alvarez exit
Alvarez arrived at The Etihad from River Plate in 2022 in a deal worth just £14million, and has gone on to play 103 games for the club.
During that time, he has helped Guardiola’s side to win the Champions League, the Club World Cup, an FA Cup and two Premier League titles, while winning the World Cup with Argentina.
However, he remains the second-choice striker behind Erling Haaland, despite making 54 appearances last season due to injury problems in the squad.
As a result, Alvarez is looking to push for a move away from City with a move to Real Madrid reportedly on the cards.
Both Chelsea and Arsenal have also been linked with a move to sign the forward, but City’s reluctance to see him leave, as well as his lofty price tag, have seen that interest fade.

Alvarez scored 19 goals and provided 13 assists in 54 appearances last season, and Guardiola is expected to hand him assurances about his place in the squad.
He remains a part of City’s plans for the upcoming season, and no deal will be rushed through at The Etihad before his return from the Olympics.
