Man City plan to sell four stars in last-ditch deals

Man City working on deals after Hugo Viana reveal

This article contains exclusive comment from Stefan Borson, a former financial adviser to Man City.

Ilkay Gundogan has been linked with an exit in recent weeks, while Manuel Akanji’s future also remains up in the air.

The duo were both unused substitutes in Man City’s 2-1 defeat against Brighton on Sunday (31 August).

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson said: “There doesn’t seem to be anybody that’s kind of gone home sort of early, we’ve done our business, we’re going home.

“Now that the Savinho deal is done or is not happening, I think really City is very much about who can they get out the door.

“Hugo Viana, the City sporting director was giving a press interview at the Champions League draw and he did say that they’re working hard on deals, but I do think that’s all on sales.

“I think they’d like to sell two, three, four players. I think there’ll still be a bit of a scramble to get rid of high wage players, like the sort of guys that all of the top clubs have got.

“So, at United, you’ve got the Sancho situation. At City, you’ve got Kalvin Phillips, players like this. At Chelsea, you’ve got the Sterling and Chilwell situation.

“These are players who are on massive money and they all effectively could go for free if somebody would take their wages.”
