Man City plotting to sign Mike Maignan to replace ‘£40m’ star – sources
Man City are plotting a potential swoop for AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
The Premier League champions’ interest in Maignan, 28, comes amid interest from Saudi Arabia in first-choice shot-stopper Ederson.
Football Insider revealed on Monday (3 June) that Man City are seriously considering selling Ederson this summer.
A well-placed source has told Football Insider that the “feeling” at the Etihad Stadium is that the 30-year-old would be interested in an exit, with the club set to hold out for bids of around £40million.
Stefan Ortega has deputised for Ederson in the 2023-24 campaign and hopes to get the chance to stake his claim for the role if the Brazil international leaves.
Man City want Milan star Maignan if Ederson leaves
However, sources say Pep Guardiola is planning to bring in a new goalkeeper as he is not keen on potentially weakening his all-conquering squad for the 2024-25 season.
Maignan has been identified as an ideal target after his stellar performances for Milan, with club chiefs feeling he has huge potential to make the grade in the Premier League.
The 28-year-old is set to play for France at the European Championships in Germany this summer.

He joined Milan from Lille in 2021 and is under contract at San Siro for two more years.
The Paris Saint-Germain youth product made 42 appearances in the 2023-24 campaign, conceding 52 goals and keeping 15 clean sheets.
