Man City rank bottom for surprise Premier League stat despite scoring the most goals in 2025/26
Manchester City are slowly returning to the type of form that Pep Guardiola made them famous for when they won four consecutive Premier League titles.
Dispatching Burnley 5-1, Pep Guardiola and his players atoned for the draw and two defeats that have seen them drop five points behind in the Premier League title race already.
Elsewhere, Man City are likely to miss out on signing Joao Neves, while Newcastle United are planning talks with Bruno Guimaraes in a double transfer blow for the Cityzens.
The referee named for Man City vs Burnley was ultimately nothing to be concerned about, even if two of their five goals were scored by Clarets defender Maxime Esteve.

Where have Manchester City’s goals come from this season?
Manchester City (14) are the most prolific goal scorers this season, despite sitting in sixth place. It’s a promising sign for what may come if they can cut out the silly defensive errors.
The most encouraging aspect of City’s attacking exploits is that they are creating almost all their chances themselves. With nine goals from open play, Guardiola will be overjoyed at seeing his players creating so many chances.
Only two chances have arrived on the counter-attack, while the two own goals Esteve scored on Saturday (27 September) round out the total.
Open Play | Counter Attack | Set piece | Penalty | Own Goal |
9 | 3 | 0 | 0 | 2 |
Perhaps the only goalscoring problem Guardiola will be pondering is Man City’s overdependence on Erling Haaland and the fact that no goals have been scored from a set play, something he will be keen to address.
Erling Haaland set for another record-breaking season
Last season, Mohamed Salah enjoyed the greatest individual Premier League campaign from an attacker with 47 goal contributions on the way to lifting the title with Liverpool.

After an abysmal campaign for City, it’s possible Haaland was motivated to reclaim his mantle as the most lethal forward in the league with eight goals in six games this season so far.
Haaland has double the goals of the next highest player and six more than Salah, whose two goals after six goals is the worst-ever start the Egyptian has made to a Premier League season.
As exciting as Haaland’s form is, it’s not unfair to say that Guardiola will be hoping his teammates can support the Norwegian with more goals of their own.
