Man City ready to trigger ‘plan B’ after Ilkay Gundogan latest – pundit

Alan Hutton has insisted Man City have a “plan B” if Ilkay Gundogan leaves.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said City will have a replacement in mind if they are to lose Gundogan and insisted Pep Guardiola won’t stand in his way.

According to the Telegraph (17 January), Barcelona have a serious interest in signing the 32-year-old on a free transfer at the end of the season.

The Germany international has less than six months left on his contract at the Etihad and is able to talk to other clubs about a pre-contract deal for next season.

The City captain has spent seven years with the Manchester club and was Guardiola’s first signing when he arrived at the Etihad.

But Hutton insisted the manager won’t stand in anyone’s way if they want to leave.

I think the way Pep works with his players is that it comes down to the player,” he told Football Insider.

If he wants to try something new he does not stand in their way. We saw it with the likes of [Raheem] Sterling. They have always got a plan B, they have always got somebody to come in or somebody to play the position.

They are lucky that they have got a big squad, they have got two players all over the pitch so it does not really seem to be a problem.

He has been a great servant to the club but I think it will come down to that chat between the manager and player. If he feels his future is elsewhere I do not think Pep would stand in his way.
