Man City risk another Cole Palmer situation if they let this player leave, he almost went in the summer
Manchester City could be at risk of making the same mistake they made with Cole Palmer if they let one of their fringe players leave.
Palmer became one of the best in the Premier League following his move to Chelsea in the summer of 2023.
The England international had come through the academy at Man City, but opted to leave the Etihad in search of more game time, which he wasn’t getting under Pep Guardiola.
Now, Guardiola wants to trim down his City squad, but that could come with the cost of letting a potential future star slip through his fingers once again.

Man City blocked Savinho’s move to Tottenham
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Man City could have a repeat of the Palmer situation if they end up letting Savinho leave.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that the 21-year-old could end up going far and becoming something special.
Over the summer, Savinho was heavily linked to Tottenham, but in the end, City opted to keep him.
Wyness added that it was unusual that chief executive Ferran Soriano had blocked the Brazilian’s move, as he rarely gets involved in player deals.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “What surprised me was a story that just came out about how Ferran Soriano, the chief executive at Man City, was actually the one who blocked the sale.
“He very rarely gets involved in player things, so that was very unusual. He has the ultimate power and is one hell of an operator but I’m surprised to hear his name linked with that. I would guess from the sources that it could well be true.
“I think there was a fear there that, like Cole Palmer and some other players who have gone from them before, he could go on to other clubs and become superb. I think Savinho is one that they believe could go on to be something very special.
“I was surprised when he was linked with an exit. I told Spurs to snap him up, if they could do so, straight away. I did think they would get it done, but it was blocked, apparently.
“Pep hasn’t pruned that squad as much as he said he was going to do, but I think Savinho is one who will show everybody that he was worth keeping. I think Savinho is a name that could certainly go further. And if he does leave, then I think City will end up regretting it.”
Savinho can thrive away from Man City
Palmer isn’t the only player who has thrived away from Guardiola and Man City in recent years.
Jack Grealish completed a summer switch to Everton on loan and has been a revelation so far in his new surroundings.

Grealish has struck up a partnership with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, and under David Moyes has been given the freedom to flourish.
The same could happen to Savinho if he opted for an Etihad exit in order to improve his development.
At the age of 21, the winger needs to be playing regular football, and if he isn’t guaranteed that under Guardiola, then there will be a host of clubs lining up to secure his services.
