Finance guru salutes Man City after 'innovative' reveal - 'I've never seen this before'
Man City are often at the forefront of “innovation” and it is therefore no surprise to see them embrace new data-gathering wearable technology.
That is the view of finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the launch of the Connected Smart Scarf.
City revealed last Wednesday (27 July) that they have partnered with Cisco to roll out the scarf ahead of the 2022-23 season.
The product measures the wearer’s biometric responses to in-game moments and will be offered to selected match-going fans at the Etihad.
City have also been early adopters of metaverse technology as well as innumerable high-tech solutions in the sporting department.
Plumley claimed that the launch of the smart scarf has achieved its aim by generating a buzz among supporters.

“Whether this is a gimmick or not, it has got people talking,” the Sheffield Hallam University exper told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“City seem to be a the forefront of a lot of innovation in this area. It’s something we’ve never seen before.
“But if it does work and they get a little bit of data that they have never had before, you are then looking at what you can do with it.
“It’s low-risk and relatively low-cost. We know how lucrative data can be, so it’s definitely worth a go.”
City’s commercial income for 2020-21, the last financial year on record, totalled £271.7million.
