‘Man City set for shock summer sale – Guardiola doesn’t like him’
Manchester City could be in line to sell Nico Gonzalez this summer only six months after he joined the club.
Gonzalez started just nine Premier League games after his January switch from Porto, and has already been linked with a move away.
A number of Saudi Pro League clubs have shown an interest in the 23-year-old, and his agent is reportedly exploring different options.
Football Insider revealed that it will take a huge offer to persuade City to part ways with the Spanish youngster.
However, Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Gonzalez is set for an Etihad exit before the window shuts.
‘Gonzalez doesn’t suit the new Pep Guardiola‘
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that we are seeing a revitalised Pep Guardiola, and the 54-year-old may feel that Gonzalez is not the right player for him.
Man City are looking to claim back the Premier League title next season, after losing it to Liverpool in the 2024/25 campaign.
Wyness added that Guardiola has set a new “high bar” at City, and Gonzalez may not be reaching that.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think when we look at it, he’s only had about 11 appearances and I’m afraid, he may not be fitting in behind the scenes in terms of the way that Pep likes him in training.
“Now we’ve discussed over the last few weeks the change in Pep, and there really is, I mean I’m seeing more and more that Pep has really revitalised himself, he’s looking at new things.
“I think the owners would have expected that. They wouldn’t have expected Pep to be doing the same again this season and trying to get a different result by doing the same thing. So he really has reinvented himself.
“He may have felt that this player is not for him. And while it was £50m, he’ll have a resale value and I think he may well be off. I don’t think he suits Pep.
“Whether he wants him as backup will yet to be seen but the new Pep and the new measures of performance that Pep is putting in set a high bar. I think he may well be on the move.”

‘Man City plot Kyle Walker replacement‘
Meanwhile, Man City are reportedly among a number of clubs plotting a move to sign Inter Milan star Denzel Dumfries after Kyle Walker left to join Burnley.
That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who claims that the 29-year-old’s agent has made clubs aware of his availability.
The Netherlands international is widely believed to have a £21million release clause in his deal at the San Siro, which can be activated by clubs outside of Serie A.
