Man City set for transfer ban? Keith Wyness’ verdict after source’s update
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Man City are not in danger of a transfer ban despite their huge-money January spending.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 67-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted City have “more than enough” headroom under Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) to absorb their hefty outlay.
Man City have made four January signings, adding Omar Marmoush, Victor Reis, Abdukodir Khusanov and Juma Bah to their ranks.
Sources told Football Insider on Monday (27 January) that City have also made £60million-rated Juventus star Andrea Cambiaso a top target for the final days of the window.
The spending comes despite the looming verdict in their 115 charges case, which was fought against the Premier League in secret late last year.
Meanwhile, breaches of PSR could result in potential points deductions or transfer bans – with Everton and Nottingham Forest falling foul of the rules last season.
Man City not at risk of transfer ban despite January splurge
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I don’t see a transfer ban coming in.
“City have got more than enough headroom in terms of PSR, which is the main issue. They won’t have a problem with that.
“Pep Guardiola will be aware of these players, he’ll have discussed the strategy – but he expresses himself in different ways.
“I wouldn’t read too much into it.

“He’ll know what he wants to do with these players. He’s got options now with these players but hasn’t quite decided which option he’s going to land on.
“I don’t see any danger of a transfer ban – that’s how I read it.”
