Man City set sights on signing Douglas Luiz amid ‘huge’ reveal – sources

Man City are stepping up their interest in Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz ahead of the summer window, sources have told Football Insider.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that City boss Pep Guardiola is a “huge fan” of the 25-year-old midfielder.

Guardiola believes he has improved significantly in the last two years and is ready to bring him back to the club – five years after his exit for Aston Villa.

Man City inserted a buy-back clause in that deal but that agreement has now expired.

The treble-winners must now take on an open market if they are to agree a deal to bring Luiz back to the Etihad Stadium.

Sources say City are now ready to push Premier League title rivals Arsenal all the way for the Brazil international’s signature.

Luiz has notched 10 goals and seven assists in 37 appearances across all competitions this season for Aston Villa – who are chasing a place in the Champions League.

Nevertheless, Football Insider revealed on 3 February that Villa are likely to be forced to sell the midfielder this summer after placing a £100million price tag on his head.

Luiz is under contract with the Midlands giants until June 2026.

He failed to make a senior appearance for Man City in his time at the Etihad Stadium – instead going out on loan to sister club Girona.
