Man City set to dominate with £500m+ budget under new rules – Kieran Maguire
Man City will have a financial advantage over every other Premier League club once new cost control rules are introduced.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that City’s record-breaking revenue and their ability to sell players will put them in a position to spend big in the transfer window.
Premier League clubs have agreed in principle to scrap the current Profit and Sustainability Rules in favour of new squad cost control regulations similar to those used by Uefa.
Clubs will be allowed to spend 85 percent of their overall revenue on wages, transfer fees and agent fees when the new rules are introduced in 2025-26.
As revealed by Football Insider, City are therefore free to spend as much as £500million after breaking the Premier League record with revenue of £713million in 2022-23.
Man City will have financial advantage in PL under new rules
Maguire explained that City have grown their brand to generate enough revenue that they will be at the “top” of the spending under the new rules.
“Manchester City’s success in terms of growing the brand of the club on the back of winning many trophies in recent years has helped it to become the biggest revenue-generating club in the Premier League,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“This will give Manchester City an advantage and a head start over many other clubs in the Premier League in respect of the new squad cost control rules.

“Along with their capacity to sell players who have had little or no experience for substantial fees will allow them to be in a great position.
“So I expect City to be very much at the top of spending once these rules are introduced.“
