Man City Sources: Significant Rodri update today
Man City midfielder Rodri will undergo further tests on his injured right knee in the next 48 hours, sources have told Football Insider.
Those examinations are expected to confirm a ligament tear, which will rule the 28-year-old out for the remainder of the season.
City’s medical staff fear his season the defensive midfielder’s season is over after an initial scan on Monday.
More tests are planned for when the swelling has subsided to get a clearer picture of the injury and how long the defending Premier League champions will be without him.
Rodri suffered the injury 21 minutes into Man City’s 2-2 draw with their title rivals Arsenal this past Sunday (22 September).
The midfielder collided with Thomas Partey and had to be replaced in what is set to be a devastating blow to Pep Guardiola.
Man City rely on Rodri’s midfield stability and his loss is a massive blow
Losing Rodri for the entire season this early into the campaign will have a major impact on Man City.
The Premier League giants have lost just two per-cent of games with Rodri in the team since the start of last season compared to 31 per-cent when he’s not in the side.
Since the start of the 2023-24 campaign, no player has had more touches or completed more passes in the Premier League, with his control being vital to Man City’s build-up play.
Rodri has also played more games across all competitions in the top five leagues since he joined Man City in July 2019 than any other footballer, having made 260 appearances for the club.

Guardiola will now have to prepare for life without the Spain international and utilise the options available in his squad such as Mateo Kovacic, who replaced Rodri on Sunday.
The club are back in action on Tuesday (24 September) when they face Watford in the EFL Cup.
