Man City star could quit if teammate signs new deal – O’Rourke
Man City backup goalkeeper Stefan Ortega could quit if Ederson pens a new deal at the club, sources have told Football Insider.
It is understood that the Brazil international shot-stopper is in ongoing talks over a new contract at the Etihad Stadium.
Ederson, 31, is wanted by Saudi Pro League clubs but remained with Man City despite interest in the most recent summer window.
He has played every game in the Premier League this term but has made way for Ortega, 31, in four League Cup and Champions League games.
Sources say the pair, who are both currently out of contract in June 2026, have intertwined futures.
Football Insider revealed on Monday (4 November) that Ortega could leave Man City in search of regular first-team football at Bundesliga winners Bayer Leverkusen.
It is believed a return to Germany as a first-choice shot-stopper is a tempting prospect for the City star.
Ortega could quit Man City if Ederson pens new deal
If Ederson pens a new deal to stay on as the number-one goalkeeper for City, Ortega is increasingly likely to leave in the coming transfer windows.
The former Arminia Bielefeld and 1860 Munich star played 20 times across all competitions last term as Pep Guardiola’s side won the Premier League, conceding 20 goals and keeping eight clean sheets.

He effectively wrapped up the title for City with a crucial one-on-one save against Tottenham’s Heung-min Son in May.
Ederson has been with the Manchester giants since 2017 and has won six Premier League titles and a Champions League with the club, making 344 appearances across all competitions.
