Man City stars Haaland and Grealish react to exit-linked McAtee’s emotional message

Erling Haaland and Jack Grealish were among those to react to a new message from Man City ace James McAtee following the latest developments.

It was a difficult campaign for the young attacker with Pep Guardiola‘s side, as he found game time hard to come by even as the Citizens struggled to turn things around in a below par season by their standards.

As a result, McAtee is expected to leave Man City in the summer transfer window, as the club oversee a squad overhaul in the hope of challenging for trophies again in the 2025/26 season.

In the meantime, the attacker has been enjoying a successful summer, in which he has no doubt attracted plenty of attention.

James McAtee reflects on England success

While most of the Man City squad are currently competing in the Club World Cup, the attacker has been on a different assignment in recent weeks.

McAtee has been part of the England Under-21s squad competing at Euro 2025, a tournament that ended on Saturday (28 June) in the perfect style for the Three Lions.

A 3-2 win over Germany after extra time saw Lee Carsley’s side successfully defend their title in the final, to lift the trophy for a fourth time in total.

Having captained the side in that win, McAtee was delighted as he took to Instagram to reflect on that win, writing: “Everyone pulled together. Everyone delivered. Champions”.

Grealish is another who is expected to leave Man City this summer, but he still showed his support by liking that post.

Other members of the Citizens’ squad such as Haaland, Phil Foden, Rico Lewis and Josko Gvardiol also did the same.

Man City start to attract further attention

Football Insider Verdict

With McAtee being tipped to leave the Etihad in the transfer window, this performance will have helped him to potentially find a new destination.

The 22-year-old produced an outstanding showing against Germany, looking a consistent threat to earn the Man of the Match award.

Proving he can do that in a game as big as this is only going to further tempt clubs to make a move for him, given he can clearly now be a major asset.

That ought to be exciting for the Man City youngster, since it should give him some good opportunities to move to a club where he will not only play regularly, but also have a chance of further success.
