Finance guru lambasts Premier League amid new twist in Man City FFP probe
Man City will likely escape punishment for alleged Financial Fair Play breaches because the Premier League is reluctant to dish out meaningful punishments.
That is the view of finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the latest twist in the top flight’s investigation into City’s conduct.
As quoted by The Athletic last Wednesday (3 August), Premier League CEO Richard Masters revealed when asked about City’s FFP situation: “There is an investigation, and it’s still ongoing.”

The probe has long been reported, but this is the first time that the organisation has acknowledged it in public.
City were cleared by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in July 2020 because Uefa’s allegations against them were time-barred.
And Plumley is convinced that the reigning league champions will again dodge retribution this time around.
“Potentially, it’s not ideal for them but I don’t think they will be massively concerned given what we have seen so far,” the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“We know this has been rumbling on for a long time. It’s never gone away.
“It’s interesting to hear these comments now given that Uefa are changing their directive around FFP, so the timing is interesting.

“But the question with the Premier League and FFP is that we have yet to see any real punishment linked to any club.
“Nothing has ever been done. From City’s point of view and with the way the case went with Uefa, I don’t think they’ll be overly concerned.”
