‘Man City to agree new Ederson contract and then let him go’

Ederson’s Man City contract may be running down but he has dismissed speculation swirling about a potential exit.

Speaking at the Club World Cup (26 June), he said: “My head is here. It stays with City. It gives me everything to go back to the Premier League again and try to win the Champions League as well. My mind is staying in the club.”

The Brazil international has 12 months left to run on his deal at the Etihad Stadium and has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League.

Ederson, 31, has won six Premier League titles with Man City since joining from Benfica in July 2017.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has claimed City are likely to hand the goalkeeper a new deal – but could still sell him.

Man City ‘looking to move Ederson out’ despite new contract claim

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness suggested Man City will be “looking to move Ederson out at some stage” and could add a new challenger between the sticks this summer.

Stefan Ortega is the current number two and has stood in for the City star during periods of injury in recent seasons.

Wyness suggested a new deal will ensure Ederson keeps his value ahead of a potential move next year.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think they will offer Ederson a new contract.

“He may still move, but they will tie him up on another contract to negotiate some sort of deal.

“I believe that’s exactly what’s going to happen and I’d expect that. He’s only 31, which is still a good age for a keeper.

“I know that there’s been question marks around him, but to me he’s been a loyal servant and I think Pep still has him in his plans.

“I think he’ll be there, but they’ll want to bring in somebody to be challenging him as well because they will be looking to move him out at some stage.

“If it’s not this season then it’ll be next season, but I do think they’ll get him under contract again before they move him out.”

Man City make Gibbs-White decision

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (16 June) that Man City have made a final decision about their pursuit of Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White.

Following the arrivals of Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders, City’s interest in Gibbs-White has cooled.

Forest’s £70million valuation for their star midfielder is thought to be a large factor in the decision.
