Man City ‘to complete big January signing’ in ‘surprise’ deal

Manchester City could complete a “big January signing” in a “surprise” deal as they look to bring in midfield reinforcements.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Leeds United goalkeeper Paul Robinson revealed the Premier League champions could push to sign Bruno Guimaraes, 27, or Martin Zubimendi, 25, in the upcoming transfer window.

Man City have been heavily linked with both players in recent times following star midfielder Rodri’s season-ending knee injury.

Football Insider revealed on 19 December Newcastle United will not entertain offers from Pep Guardiola’s side for Guimaraes in January.

Zubimendi, who rejected a move to Liverpool over the summer, is viewed as a potential candidate to fill the void left by his fellow Spain international at the Etihad.

Football Insider revealed on 27 December Man City could look to trigger the Real Sociedad midfielder’s £50million release clause once the transfer window opens.

Man City have money to spend after Julian Alvarez exit

Robinson revealed they will have money to spend following Julian Alvarez’s £81.5million move to Atletico Madrid over the summer.

“There could be a surprise move for Antonee Robinson to Liverpool in January maybe,” Robinson told Football Insider.

“Another one is Zubimendi.

“We know how close Liverpool were or how hard Liverpool pursued him, but can Manchester City just pursue him that little bit harder?

“Bruno Guimaraes or Zubimendi maybe to Manchester City.

“Manchester City are going to have to start pulling up some trees somewhere soon.

“They have got the money to do it.

“They have got the money from Alvarez in the summer.

“They are the ones that could surprise a few people this window.

“They might sign big.”
