Man City to open talks over ‘jaw-dropping’ Phil Foden deal – sources

Manchester City will step up talks with Phil Foden about a bumper new contract once he returns from the European Championships.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed Man City will be keen to tie the England international down to a new long-term deal following his impressive season.

Football Insider revealed in March the Premier League champions had postponed contract talks with Foden until the summer.

The 24-year-old is believed to be seeking a new deal that reflects his importance to the side after recently being named the Premier League’s Player of the Season.

Football Insider previously revealed Etihad chiefs are ready to offer the attacker a “jaw-dropping” deal, with his current contract set to expire in 2027.

Foden recorded his best season yet as he registered 27 goals and 12 assists in 53 appearances across the campaign.

That form helped Man City secure the Premier League title for a record-breaking fourth year in a row and reaffirmed his importance to the side.

The attacker is expected to play a significant role for England at the European Championships before Etihad chiefs will look to open talks with him about a new deal when he returns from the tournament.
