Kieran Maguire: Man City to pull off ‘superb’ deal amid Don Dransfield news

Man City likely have plans in place to name a “superb” successor to City Football Group’s chief of strategy Don Dransfield.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the latest developments behind the scenes at the Etihad Stadium.

Dransfield has been responsible for brand growth at City Football Group since September 2020, and he worked for the company for over a decade before his appointment as chief of strategy.

As reported by Sport Business on Tuesday (31 May), Dransfield has now agreed to join Miami-based private equity firm 777 Partners.

City Football Group owns 11 clubs worldwide, with Man City front and centre of their commercial operation.

And Maguire argues in light of Dransfield’s departure that the 2021-22 Premier League champions have likely had succession plans in place for some time.

“I think City will have already done their homework on this,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“They are the type of club where succession planning is part of the overall ethos of the organisation as a whole. This is absolutely essential because City are ultimately still in a growth phase as a brand.

“They will want someone with superb knowledge of marketing and communication who knows the inner workings of football to take over.”

City were world football’s biggest revenue generators in 2020-21.

Their turnover stood at £570m, of which £217m was commercial income.
