Man City to resist Omar Marmoush sale, star may force exit in summer window

Manchester City have no current plans to allow forward Omar Marmoush to leave this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The Citizens are not keen on the idea of weakening their squad at all this summer, and that is understood to leave Marmoush with a decision to make regarding his long-term future.

Sources have indicated that the 27-year-old will need to force through a move if he is unhappy with the gametime that he has received this term, with City not keen to entertain a sale at all.

Man City’s transfer plans are set to see them strengthen their hand even further ahead of next term, but they do not want to lose any of the depth from their existing group.

Omar Marmoush blocked from Man City starting XI

Marmoush made an immediate impact for City when he joined them from Eintracht Frankfurt in January 2025, as he struck seven goals from his first 16 Premier League games.

However, his electric start to life in English football has not been reflected in his gametime this season, as he has often been forced to play second fiddle to some of the other members of Pep Guardiola’s squad.

City have added increased competition in attacking areas with the likes of Rayan Cherki and Antoine Semenyo within the last year, while Marmoush has the extra caveat of serving as Erling Haaland’s understudy as the team’s main striker.

That situation has combined to see him start just seven Premier League games this term, and he has had to be content with largely earning his flowers in the domestic cup competitions.

It remains to be seen where Marmoush sees his future beyond the end of the season, but it is already clear from City’s stance that if he does want to move away, it will have to be initiated by him and his agent.

City still pushing for Pep Guardiola to stay

Football Insider revealed last weekend that City are still pushing for Pep Guardiola to stay for another season, despite exit links growing increasingly strong as we near the end of the season.

The Spanish boss is set to enter the final year of his contract at the Etihad Stadium in the summer, but there have been continuous suggestions that he could be set to walk away prematurely.

Nevertheless, the club hierarchy are still keen to try and keep him until the end of his current deal, although there is also an acceptance that they won’t stand in his way if he does decide to leave.

That looks set to have a major impact on the futures of some of the players within the squad, as the arrival of a new manager can often set everyone within a squad back to square one in terms of the pecking order.

Marmoush’s future is likely to remain up in the air in the coming weeks due to the sheer amount of quality options that City have at their disposal, but it remains to be seen how he will choose to approach the summer window.
