‘Man City to scramble for Kevin De Bruyne contract extension amid major injury news’

Man City may have to persuade Kevin De Bruyne to extend his decade-long stay with the reigning Premier League champions.

The Belgian superstar, who has made 400 appearances for the Citizens since making the £55million move from Wolfsburg in 2015, has been an incredible servant and has written himself into the history books.

With 70 Premier League goals to his name, only seven other midfielders rank above the 33-year-old, battling the likes of Liverpool star Mohamed Salah for the league’s best player over the last decade.

Henry Winter has already suggested that De Bruyne could remain at Man City on a performance-related contract, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season.

And with the player only making 12 Premier League starts so far this term, it makes total sense not to give him every penny available as Pep Guardiola prepares for a summer of change.

Man City to lead Kevin De Bruyne away from big-money exit

Mick Brown told Football Insider that Saudi Arabian outfits are keeping a close eye on De Bruyne’s situation at Man City, with clubs ready to spend big money to bring the star to the Middle East.

Guardiola, who could also leave Man City this summer, looks to be ready for the passing of the torch at the Etihad Stadium with Nico Gonzalez and Phil Foden trusted in midfield over the veteran.

The Citizens will already be preparing for a plethora of signings, having already splashed over £100million in the last window, and multiple names have been floated around at the Etihad.

However, that may not be so simple ahead of the summer transfer window as one of City’s transfer targets has suffered a new crushing injury blow at their respective club.

Florian Wirtz suffers huge injury blow ahead of potential Premier League move

Bayer Leverkusen confirmed, as per X, that Man City-linked Florian Wirtz has sustained a cruciate ligament injury that is likely to keep him out for “several weeks”.

While the German giants are confident of him returning ahead of the end of the season, this is not the first time the 21-year-old has suffered a setback with a similar injury, having missed the entirety of the 2021/22 campaign with a cruciate ligament tear.

Although Wirtz was being viewed as the next Jack Grealish, it could be De Bruyne that City persuade to stay in Manchester as a new plan is thought out rather than splashing over £100million on the German star.
