Man City to spend ‘£100m’ on new signing after deal agreed – Stefan Borson
Manchester City will spend around £100million on new signing Omar Marmoush throughout the lifetime of his deal at the Etihad.
That is the view of former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the Egypt international is likely to cost the Premier League champions around £22million a year in terms of amortisation, wages and national insurance.
Marmoush became Man City’s third signing of the window last week following the additions of Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis.
The 25-year-old, who made his debut against Chelsea on Saturday (25 January), joined Pep Guardiola’s side from Eintracht Frankfurt for £59million, with a further £4million in potential add-ons.
Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg reported on 21 January the forward will earn around €192,000 (£161,000) a week after completing his big-money move to the Etihad.
Man City unlikely to pay Omar Marmoush reported wages
But Borson admitted he doubts Man City will be paying Marmoush the reported figures.
“I think the down payment is £59million,” Borson told Football Insider.
“I’m not sure you can believe too much about what you read about his wages. I think it was rumoured that he was on €200,000 (£168,000) a week. That feels a bit toppy.
“I suspect it’s not quite as much as that, but we know when you sign a £60million player, you are paying them well over £100,000 a week for any team. He has got a four-and-a-half-year contract that I think includes an option on top.
“All of these deals are the best part of £10million a year cost to the club with wages and national insurance, especially given national insurance is now 15 per cent for the club.

“For almost any £60million signing, you have not only got the cost of the deal, which in the accounts will be amortised over five years, so £60million becomes £12million a year.
“But then on top of that, you have got the incremental wage costs, which will be the best part of £10million, so the annual cost on the books is about £22million.
“It’s not insignificant and, by the time you finish, it’s a £100million deal.”
