Man City told ‘absolutely top-class’ signing could unleash Erling Haaland as offer submitted – expert

Kevin Campbell has claimed a Man City swoop for Real Madrid midfield superstar Toni Kroos could be on the cards.

The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, backed the 32-year-old “born winner” to bring the best out of red-hot hitman Erling Haaland.

According to Spanish outlet Sport (14 November), Man City have approached Kroos with a contract offer worth €12million-a-year (£10.5million).

The midfielder is out of contract at the end of this season and thus can enter pre-contract negotiations with interested clubs on 1 January.

Kroos, who has won five Champions League trophies, played under City boss Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich during the 2013-14 campaign.

Campbell suggested Kroos’ time with dominant sides like Bayern and Real Madrid makes him a perfect fit for a move to the Etihad Stadium.

He told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “He’s an absolutely top-class player.

“When you’re a possession-based team like Man City, Kroos has got all the right clubs on his CV. There’s no one better.

“He would help Haaland even more. He likes to run in behind – just give it to Kroos, make your run, and the ball will appear.

“He’s lethal from outside the box, too.

“There’s going to be a changing of the guard at Man City, and they’re not going to stop pursuing quality. He’s a born winner, and it wouldn’t surprise me if he fancied it at Man City.”

Man City

The reigning Premier League champions could lose a midfielder of their own next summer, with Ilkay Gundogan out of contract in June.

Football Insider revealed on 31 October that City are worried Gundogan will snub their new contract offer and leave on a free transfer.

In other news, pundit tells Man City to “stop the source” as “worrying” new details emerge.
