Man City told to ‘accept Manuel Akanji offer’ – fans rage as footage re-analysed

Man City fans expressed their frustration with defender Manuel Akanji after his error led to Everton’s equaliser in their 1-1 draw against Sean Dyche’s side on Thursday (December 26).

Pep Guardiola’s side took the lead in the 14th minute through Bernardo Silva before Illiman Ndaiye equalised for the visitors just after the half-hour mark.

The Senegal international took his goal brilliantly, touching it down before finishing on the half-volley, leaving Stefan Ortega with no chance in the Man City goal.

Akanji, 29, could have prevented it from happening, however, failing to intercept Abdoulaye Doucoure’s cross and allowing it to fall to Ndaiye.

Erling Haaland had the opportunity to restore City’s lead from the penalty spot after Vitalii Mykolenko brought down Savinho, but was unable to get the better of Jordan Pickford.

City have now won just one game in their last 13 games across all competitions, their worst run of form since Guardiola took over back in 2016.

With just 28 points from their 18 Premier League games, the current champions face the very real threat of failing to qualify for the Champions League, never mind retaining their title.

The fans took to X, formally known as Twitter, after the game to express their annoyance with Akanji and urge the club to sell the centre-back.
