Man City told to ‘back off’ by West Ham fans after Lucas Paqueta display

West Ham fans on social media were full of praise for midfielder Lucas Paqueta as he made his return in the 4-2 win over Brentford.

The Hammers put on an emphatic display at the London Stadium on Monday evening (26 February) to beat Thomas Frank’s side.

David Moyes’ side had gone eight games without a win but their derby victory keeps them eighth in the Premier League table and still in the race for European qualification.

Jarrod Bowen stole the headlines by returning to form with a superb hat-trick, while Emerson capped the scoring with a long-range effort in the second half.

However, it was Paqueta’s name trending on social media after the match with the Brazilian returning to the starting lineup after recovering from injury.

West Ham had failed to win any of the six games that Paqueta was sidelined for and the 26-year-old made an instant impact on his return.

He has been a key player for Moyes this season, scoring five goals and assisting six across all competitions.

As revealed by Football Insider, Paqueta is still being tracked by Manchester City ahead of the summer transfer window after they came close to signing him last year.

West Ham fans on social media piled the praise on Paqueta for his display but supporters are fearful that he could leave this summer.

West Ham return to action with a trip to Everton next Saturday (2 March).
