Man City told to ‘look at Armando Broja’ after journalist’s transfer update – pundit

Alan Hutton has claimed Liam Delap could emulate Chelsea striker Armando Broja next season if he leaves Man City on loan.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said a loan spell with another top-flight side is what the 19-year-old “needs for his development”.

According to The Athletic‘s Dan Sheldon (23 July), Man City rejected a £16million bid from Southampton for a permanent deal for the striker.

Championship clubs are said to have expressed interest in signing the England youth international on loan.

The forward joined Man City’s under-23s in 2020.

He has four years remaining on his contract at the Etihad.

When asked what clubs he thought would be willing to sign Delap on loan, Hutton told Football Insider: “I think ideally it would be a Premier League club.

I know that would be a risk for a lot of the teams. He hasn’t played a lot in the Premier League and it’s the toughest league in the world.

It’s likely going to be a bottom-half team, some of them could be in a relegation battle so you’re taking quite a big risk. I think that’s probably what he needs for his development to go to that sort of level.

You look at [Armando] Broja going to Southampton from Chelsea, look on well he did. There’s teams fighting for his signature after what he did at Southampton. There’s possibilities there and I think Delap has that kind of mould at this moment in time.
