Man City told to ‘overpay Tottenham to complete Destiny Udogie deal’

Man City have been eyeing a move to sign Tottenham star Destiny Udogie ahead of the transfer window but could be met with stern resistance.

Pep Guardiola’s side are set to be in the market for a new left-back this summer, with the 22-year-old emerging as one of the leading candidates.

Football Insider revealed on 14 April that Udogie could be temped to move to City if Tottenham miss out on European qualification come the end of the season.

However, former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson has told Football Insider that City will need to overpay if they want to sign the Italian full-back.

Despite suggestions over a potential squad overhaul under a new manager amid pressure on Ange Postecoglou, Udogie is not seen as part of the likely exodus.

Tottenham stance on Destiny Udogie to Man City revealed

Football Insider revealed on 16 April that Tottenham are confident of keeping Udogie although they could consider mega-money offers for his signature.

The left-back’s contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is set to run until 2030 after he agreed a long-term extension in December 2023.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Robinson explained that Udogie has been earmarked as one player who Spurs want to keep ahead of what could be a busy summer for Postecoglou’s side.

It’s a deal Manchester City would have to overpay for,” he told Football Insider.

“He’s got a decent length left on his contract and has been one of Tottenham’s best players this season, although there’s not much competition given their performances this year.

“But actually he’s been a standout performers and is one of the players they want to keep.

“You can see another overhaul coming at Tottenham with a new manager and new set of players.

“Udogie is not going to be one of the ones the club look to let go.

“We all know that Daniel Levy drives a hard bargain and whoever comes in for Udogie will have to overpay.

“I don’t think Man City will be willing to do that for a left-back.”

Micky van de Ven update emerges amid Real Madrid interest

Udogie is not the only Tottenham star to have been linked with a move away from North London after what has been a dismal season in the Premier League.

Former Spurs scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 15 April that Real Madrid want Micky van de Ven and the 23-year-old would be open to the deal.

This comes after the centre-back’s agent hinted at a move away from Tottenham in the near future and has been touting his services to interested clubs.

Meanwhile, Football Insider exclusively revealed in February that Liverpool are “very keen” on Van de Ven and want to bring him in alongside Virgil van Dijk.
