Man City told to sell Jack Grealish to fund two ‘massive’ new deals – pundit

Noel Whelan has claimed Man City should let Jack Grealish leave the club in order to fund the signing of Jude Bellingham and a bumper new contract for Bernardo Silva.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted Grealish, 27, would be replaced much easier than Silva, 28.

Football Insider revealed last week (3 December) that Man City would be willing to sell record signing Grealish to fund a sensational swoop for Bellingham.

Meanwhile, this site has also revealed (26 November) that Bernardo Silva has been offered a mega-money new long-term deal amid interest from top European sides – with the total proposal worth around £40million.

Silva, who has won four Premier League titles and scored 50 goals during his five years at the Etihad Stadium, is currently out of contract in June 2025.

Grealish has managed just seven goals since arriving for a British-record £100million fee last summer (2021).

Whelan suggested Silva’s “key” status must be reflected in any new contract offer.

He told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “Bernardo Silva has had more influence than Grealish over time.

“He’s a key player for Man City.

“Grealish, they could find a replacement for him. If you look at the impact of both players, Silva outshines him by a long way.

“Pep loves him, they clearly want to keep him at the club. He relies on him, and that needs to be reflected in the contract offer.

“I think it would be a lot easier to let Grealish go to make way for Bellingham than it would to let Silva go. He’s massive for this team.”
