Man City told to ‘tread very carefully’ by pundit as Bernardo Silva replacement identified

Kevin Campbell has claimed Man City “need to tread very carefully” regarding Bernardo Silva’s future.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker said players as “incredible” as the 27-year-old are “hard to find”.

Silva dropped to the bench for Man City’s 2-0 win at West Ham on Sunday as uncertainty over his future grows.

Speaking at a press conference, as quoted by the BBC (6 August), Pep Guardiola revealed he wants to keep the attacking midfielder at the club this season.

However, Guardiola admitted he “doesn’t know” if the Portugal international will.

Silva has three years remaining on his contract at the Etihad.

Speaking on his Here We Go podcast (1 August), Fabrizio Romano revealed City have identified Lyon’s Lucas Paqueta as a potential replacement for Silva.

When asked by Football Insider if Paqueta would be an adequate replacement for Silva, Campbell said: “Listen, one thing is for sure, they would miss Silva.

He has been incredible in the Premier League.

There was talk last season about him leaving but he stayed and he proved to be the difference on many occasions. He really makes them tick.

He scored important goals and is a quality player. Apparently he is brilliant in the dressing room as well. Players like him are hard to find. He is gold.

They could bring somebody else in, like a Paqueta, but he is no Silva.

City need to tread very carefully considering who has left the building already.”
